PESHAWAR: US Ambassador Richard Olson met with the new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Shaukatullah Khan as well as KP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the US embassy, Ambassador Olson highlighted the importance of bilateral ties and the provision of US Assistance to KP and Fata for various development projects.

The envoy also praised US-Pakistan cooperation in countering violent extremism.

Ambassador Olson told KP Governor Khan and Chief Minister Hoti that, “Our assistance to Pakistan is a tangible sign of our long-term investment in the future of this country.”

The statement added that the US is currently funding the reconstruction of the Peshawar-Torkham Highway, and that it has built 650 kilometres of roads in Fata and KP along with other locally-designed projects to improve infrastructure, the economy, and educaiton in the region.

Referring to terrorism in his meeting, Ambassador Olson said, “The United States recognises the enormous sacrifices made by the people of Pakistan, especially your security forces.  We will continue in our joint efforts to counter extremism, combat terrorism, and protect both our peoples from the scourge of senseless violence.”
