KARACHI: Four players stormed into the main round of under-14 singles by winning qualifiers in the Essa Lab Open tennis championship at Karachi Club on Thursday.

Those who advanced into the main draw were Nasrullah, Ibrahim Khan, Abdullah Khan and Atif Nawaz.

Up and coming Ebad Sarwar had double success in two categories. He first notched up 6-1, 7-5 victory over Sheraz to surge into under-16 second round and later removed Nausher Masih 6-0, 6-1 in under-16 qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the total purse of the event has been enhanced from Rs100,000 to Rs150,000. The additional amount was announced by Rafiq Godil.

Results: Under-18 singles: First round: Ebad Sarwar Hussain bt Sheraz 6-1, 7-5; Sahibzada Mohammad Ali bt Abdul Haseeb 6-0, 6-0; Shabbir Mohammad bt Shehryar Shehzad 6-3, 6-0; Taha Bande Ali bt Rayan Imran 7-5, 6-0.

Under-16 singles: Qualifying round: Ebad Sarwar Hussain bt Nausher Masih 6-0, 6-1; Ali Mohammad bt Aftab 6-2, 6-2; Nasrullah Khan bt Waqas 6-1, 6-2.

First round: Nazif Ahmed bt Ali Mouhammad 6-0, 6-1.

Under-14 singles: Qualifying round: Nasrullah bt Mutahir 6-0, 6-0; Ibrahim Khan bt Sameer 6-1, 6-0; Abdullah Khan bt Patras 6-2, 6-2; Atif Nawaz bt Yameen 6-4, 6-0.

Under-12 singles: First round: Waqas Bhutto bt Ali Dada 8-0; Mustafa Admani bt M. Hamza 8-3; Ibrahim Khan bt Saqib Nawaz 8-4; Ghufran Faiz bt Yameen Khan 8-2; Amin Shafi bt Ashar Mir 8-0.

Men’s singles: Qualifying round: Ali Mansoor Zaidi bt Anas Godil 7-5, 6-2; Hassan Tai bt Shoaib Ahmed 6-4, 6-2.

Friday’s fixtures: Matches start at 9.00am.
