Hidden hands

Published April 19, 2014

THE people hadn’t forgotten the Jaffar Express incident when another shocking incident occurred in the Islamabad fruit market. A five-kilogram bomb was detonated that killed 24 people and injured 116 others.

Altogether, 41 people lost their lives whereas 161 were injured in two days and perhaps some of them are still in serious condition.

The United Balochistan Army (UBA) claimed responsibility for the two incidents.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, after the bomb blast in the fruit market, reached the site and later issued a statement rejecting the UBA’s claim for the blast.

On the other hand, the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan condemned the blast, stating that the Taliban still abided by the ceasefire pact.

If Nisar rejected the UBA’s claim for the blast in the market, he should then expose those responsible for terrorist incidents.

When Islamabad, the capital city, is not safe from blasts and killings of innocent labourers or fruit sellers, how can other cities be saved from such incidents?

Who is responsible for security lapses? Such incidents are a big question mark on Pakistan’s law-enforcement agencies and their performance. It seems that no one can spend his life in peace here.
