KARACHI: The Sindh home department has imposed a ban on movement of wheat outside the limits of the district except supply of wheat to flour mills in Karachi (being a non-growing area) under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code.

The home department has banned inter-district movement of wheat. However, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot and Jamshoro districts are designated for purchase of wheat by the flour mills of Karachi at Rs1,250 per 40 kilograms in growers’ interest.

To maintain transparency in this regard, two checkpoints have been established at Dharma Qamber/Shahdadkot district (which will cover districts of Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot) and at Sehwan (which will cover Dadu and Jamshoro districts).

According to a notification the authorised officers will issue permits to vehicles carrying wheat from the above districts on production of copies of food-grain licence with the original stamp of roller flour mill original letter of a wheat broker and original quality of the consignment.

Besides, daily wheat share of each flour mills is fixed as 600 wheat bags. The wheat stocks being transported by any flour mills beyond their daily due share would be seized on government account without any notice.—PPI
