ISLAMABAD: Some exciting contests were seen in the semi-finals of the Subh-e-Nau Earth Day National Ladies and Juniors Tennis Event here on Thursday.

In the boys’ U-18 semis, both top seed and second seed Mudassir and Muzammil were given tough resistance by their opponents.

In the first match, Zaid Mujahid played some fine str­okes against Mudassir and took the match to full three sets. Mudassir, however, bounced back in their last set to clinch it 6-1 and win the match by 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

In the other semi-final, Nofil Kalim beat Muzammil and took the first set easily. Muzammil then made a comeback and won the next two sets in style with superb tennis.

The finals of ladies singles, under-18 and under-14 will be played on Friday from 3:00pm onwards at the PTF Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad.

Mian Riaz Hussain, Sports and IPC minister, will be the chief guest on the occasion.

Boys U-18 (semi-finals):

M. Mudassir bt Zaid Mujhaid 6-3, 4-6, 6-1; M. Muzammil bt Nofil Kalim 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Ladies singles (quarter-finals):

Shahida Badshah bt Shahida Farooq 2-6, 6-2, 6-4; Mahin Aftab bt Khunsha 6-2, 6-2.

Ladies singles (semi-finals):

Alina Aftab bt Shahida Badshah 6-0, 6-2; Rida Khalid bt Maheen Aftab 6-2, 6-0.

Boys U-14 (quarter-finals):
